Record
Voice activation
Start recording when you speak, or finish a manually started recording after silence.
In the appSettings → Voice → Recording
On this page
Start recording with speech
- Choose a connected microphone in Settings → Voice → Recording.
- Enable Start recording when you speak.
- Check the menu-bar panel for Listening for speech….
- Click the field where you want your words to go, then speak.
- Pause to finish. MicMyDay transcribes the segment and delivers it using your current settings.
Voice activation is off by default. When enabled, it keeps the microphone open while idle and detects speech locally. Listening pauses during processing and resumes afterward.
Choose how long a pause ends recording
Silence before stopping defaults to 1.5 seconds. The available intervals are 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 seconds.
A longer interval gives you more time to think between phrases. A shorter interval finishes sooner after you stop speaking. Voice-triggered recordings always use this interval, even when Stop after silence is off.
Stop a shortcut recording after silence
Enable Stop after silence if you also want a manually started recording to finish after a pause. This option is off by default and begins looking for an ending pause after speech has been detected.
You can leave Start recording when you speak off and use only silence-based stopping: start with your shortcut, say your thought, and let the pause finish it.
Maximum recording remains a separate limit. See recording length.
Cancel a segment or stop listening
Press Esc to discard the current segment. This does not switch voice activation off.
To stop listening altogether, turn off Start recording when you speak. That stops idle listening and cancels a voice-triggered segment already underway.
Voice activation works best in a quiet environment. Turn it off when you prefer to start each recording with your shortcut or the menu-bar panel.
