Custom endpoints

Use a compatible service you run yourself or one supplied by another provider.

Check the server’s capability

A custom connection needs a running server and a model suitable for the job. Speech transcription needs an audio-transcription endpoint. Rewriting needs a chat-completions endpoint.

Choose a server and model that support the endpoint you need: /audio/transcriptions for speech, or /chat/completions for rewriting.

Use the base URL and model ID provided by the server. The addresses below are examples; replace them with the address of your running service.

Configure transcription

  1. Choose Custom in Settings → Engine.
  2. Enter the Base URL, such as http://127.0.0.1:8000/v1.
  3. Enter an API token if the server requires one. It is sent as a Bearer token.
  4. Select a Model from the server’s list, or choose Enter a model id manually instead.
  5. Dictate a short sentence to verify the connection and model.

For this example, the server must handle audio transcription at http://127.0.0.1:8000/v1/audio/transcriptions.

Configure rewriting

  1. Enable rewriting in Settings → Rewrite and choose Custom.
  2. Enter the Base URL. For a compatible local service, an example is http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1.
  3. If authentication is required, use Add header. For Bearer authentication, the name is Authorization and the value is Bearer YOUR_TOKEN.
  4. Select the server’s model or enter its model ID manually.
  5. Choose Use this endpoint, select a profile, and test a short dictation.

The example service must handle http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1/chat/completions. Do not include a token in the URL; use the credential or header fields.

If the model list does not load

MicMyDay tries the server’s /models endpoint. Use Try again after fixing a connection issue, or Enter a model id manually instead when the server does not provide a useful list.

You can return with Choose from the server’s list instead. For manual entry, use the exact ID of a model your server supports for the selected task.

Check the address and connection

  • On this Mac: localhost or 127.0.0.1 reaches a service on the same Mac as MicMyDay.
  • Another computer: use that computer’s reachable network address and allow Local Network access if macOS asks.
  • Public internet: use HTTPS. HTTP is allowed for localhost and local-network services.
  • URL format: use a base URL without a username, password, query string, or fragment.

If the server returns an endpoint or model error, confirm that the base path includes the API prefix it expects, such as /v1, and that the selected model supports the requested operation.

Understand where processing happens

The custom server you configure processes the audio or text for that task. Use a service on your Mac to keep processing local, or choose a network or hosted service you trust.

For local rewriting without setting up a server, use a downloaded model inside MicMyDay instead.
