Check your Mac
MicMyDay runs on Apple silicon with macOS 14 or later. Downloaded Whisper, Parakeet, and Nemotron speech models, and downloaded rewrite models, run locally on supported Macs.
The optional Apple Intelligence rewrite model has additional requirements: macOS 26 or later, an eligible Mac, and Apple Intelligence enabled with its model ready. You can use a downloaded rewrite model without Apple Intelligence.
Install the app
- Get MicMyDay from the website and open your download.
- If your download is a disk image, drag MicMyDay onto its Applications shortcut. Open the app from Applications, then eject the disk image.
- Look for the MicMyDay icon in the macOS menu bar. Use that icon to open its panel, even when no app window is visible.
For a direct purchase, open the receipt email and click Access purchase. This opens Polar, where you can view your licence key. You can then activate it in Settings.
Work through setup
The setup assistant helps you choose your sound preferences, grant permissions, connect a speech model, and configure recording and rewriting. You can change these choices in Settings at any time.
- Permissions: allow the microphone. Add Accessibility for automatic pasting and Input Monitoring if you use a modifier-only shortcut.
- Voice: choose a shortcut and a connected microphone.
- Engine: download a local model or configure the transcription provider you want to use.
- Rewrite: leave it off for plain transcription, or choose a rewrite model and profile.
For a local model in setup, Download and continue starts the download. You can choose Continue without auto-paste if you want to grant Accessibility later, and Skip rewriting for a plain first dictation. At the end, choose Start dictating. Follow Your first dictation for the complete walkthrough.
Revisit setup or update
Open the menu-bar panel and choose Settings. The settings sidebar has Show Setup Assistant if you want to run through the choices again.
For a newer app version, open Settings → General → Updates and choose Check for Updates. See startup and updates for the automatic-check setting.
