Your first dictation

See your first sentence appear in another app, then adjust the result.

On this page

Get ready

Install MicMyDay and open its menu-bar panel. In Settings → Permissions, allow Microphone access. Allow Accessibility for automatic pasting and restart MicMyDay when prompted.

In Settings → Engine, choose Whisper, Parakeet, or Nemotron, select a model, and use Get to download it. If it is already installed, select it. Wait until the model shows Ready before continuing. This download needs internet; the downloaded model can transcribe offline.

Keep rewriting off for this first try. Under Settings → General, leave Paste automatically on and Press Return after pasting set to Don’t send.

Check your shortcut

The default is Right Shift, with Tap or hold behavior. A modifier-only shortcut requires Input Monitoring. If you prefer, choose a regular key combination in Settings → Voice → Global shortcut.

You can also use Start dictation in the menu-bar panel to try recording before setting up a shortcut.

Try it in Notes

  1. Open a new note and click in its body.
  2. Tap Right Shift to start recording. If the indicator shows a spinner or Starting…, wait for it to finish before speaking. AirPods and other Bluetooth headsets need a brief moment to get ready. See wireless-headset startup.
  3. Say: Remember to send the revised proposal to Svenja tomorrow morning.
  4. Tap Right Shift again to stop. Keep the destination ready while MicMyDay transcribes.
  5. Read the result in your note. If the result was copied instead, press ⌘V to paste it.

For push-to-talk, hold the shortcut while speaking and release it to finish. In the default combined mode, the hold must last at least one second. Press Esc to cancel a dictation you do not want.

Check the result

A repeated misspelling can be fixed with a saved correction. If you want a more polished or structured result, set up a rewrite profile.

The menu-bar panel shows the latest result. With history enabled, you can also find it later in History. If nothing appeared, check copied but not pasted.
