Use your text

Pasting & sending

Choose where the finished text goes and whether a send key follows it.

In the appSettings → General → Insertion

On this page

Paste into the app you started in

Paste automatically is on by default. Click the destination text field before starting dictation. When the result is ready, MicMyDay returns to that app and pastes at the cursor.

Automatic pasting needs Accessibility permission. If it is unavailable, MicMyDay copies the text instead so you can paste it yourself.

Copy now, paste yourself

Turn Paste automatically off when you want to choose the destination after dictating. The finished result is copied; click the field you want and press ⌘V.

If you need the latest text again, open the menu-bar panel and use Last transcription → Copy transcription. Use History for older entries when history is enabled.

The completed result is available on your clipboard for reuse. See Privacy & your data for managing saved copies.

Choose a key after pasting

With automatic pasting enabled, Press Return after pasting offers:

  • Don’t send — the default; leave the inserted text ready for review.
  • Press Return.
  • Press ⌘Return.
  • Press ⇧Return.

This setting applies across your dictations. Choose the send shortcut used by your destination app and test it there first; some apps use Return for a new line.

No send key is pressed when the result is only copied to the clipboard.

Spacing and sound

Append a trailing space adds a space after the inserted result so you can continue typing. It is enabled by default.

Play feedback tones is also enabled by default and provides audible recording and processing cues. Turn it off if you prefer visual feedback.

Revisit an earlier dictation

History lets you search and copy saved transcripts, including the text before and after a rewrite. It keeps your dictations together in one searchable list.

Choose what is saved

Configure Keep recent transcripts and the retention limit under Settings → General → History. See history retention and deletion for the available choices.

See text before the final paste

Some providers can return text progressively after recording ends. See Live text for overlay display, direct typing, and recovery if insertion is interrupted.
