Privacy & your data

Understand which data stays on your Mac, which connections you enable, and how to clear saved information.

Choose where your words are processed

Your choiceWhere the dictation data goes
Downloaded Whisper, Parakeet, or NemotronThe audio is transcribed on this Mac.
On this Mac rewritingThe transcript is rewritten locally by the selected downloaded model or Apple built-in model.
Hosted transcriptionThe selected provider receives the recording and relevant language or vocabulary hints.
Hosted rewritingThe selected provider receives the transcript and profile instructions, not the recording.
Custom endpointThe configured server receives the audio or text needed for that task. Its location and configuration determine who operates it.
Apple SpeechWith Prefer on-device recognition enabled, local support is required. Turning it off permits Apple’s server recognition path.

Transcription and rewriting are separate choices. To keep both local, use a local speech model and On this Mac rewriting, or leave rewriting off.

Control provider approvals

Before sharing audio or text with a provider, MicMyDay asks you to Cancel or Allow for This Provider. Approvals are remembered separately for the destination and the type of data being sent.

Use Settings → Permissions → Provider privacy → Reset sharing choices to be asked again. Resetting approvals does not delete data the provider already received. Its own policies govern that data.

Other connections the app makes

Model downloads, update checks, and licence activation or validation use internet connections. These tasks are separate from processing your dictations.

Licence activation sends the key and this Mac’s device name to the licensing service. Validation uses the key and activation identifier. See offline licence use for how long a saved validation remains usable.

What is stored on the Mac

  • Models: downloaded speech and rewrite models remain until you remove them.
  • History: when enabled, transcript text, timing, engine/profile information, and delivery details are kept locally.
  • Usage: numeric activity totals and model/profile information are kept locally, separately from history. Usage counters contain no transcript text or recordings.
  • Credentials: provider keys and credential values are stored using macOS Keychain.
  • Recordings: audio is held in temporary files during dictation. These files are removed as part of normal completion or cancellation.

History keeps text versions of your dictations. The latest transcript is also available in the menu-bar panel during the current session.

Remove saved text and credentials

  1. History: use Clear all in History or Clear now in Settings. Turn Keep recent transcripts off if you do not want new entries.
  2. Usage: open Settings → Usage and use Reset counters, then confirm. This resets statistics without changing your history or settings. See usage controls.
  3. The latest panel result: quit the app to clear its in-memory result.
  4. Clipboard copies: replace the clipboard content and manage any clipboard-history tool separately.
  5. Provider credentials: visit each configured provider and use Remove key, clear custom tokens, or remove custom header rows.
  6. Models: use the trash control beside an installed model to remove its download.

For complete history removal, clear the list before turning history off. See History for how these controls work. Copies pasted into other apps are managed by those apps.

Removing a key from MicMyDay is different from revoking it with the provider. Uninstalling the app alone does not necessarily remove Keychain entries. For the full policy and contact details, see the privacy policy.
